The evolution of a Business Analyst has undergone many changes with the advancement of technology. Previously Business Analysts were first and foremost responsible for requirements gathering, standards production, presentations, and liaison and support to development teams. But now days businesses are relying more on technology data automation and AI. This is when Business Analysts have become the bridge that connects business requirements with technology solutions.
Technology Acquaintance a significant shift is the requirement for Business Analysts to know the technology. The BA need not be a programmer but being aware of CRM software automation cloud apps, data warehouses, and analytics will not hurt. It enables the BA to understand what is feasible and communicate needs with the tech team in a language they understand.
Data has also become a significant part of the BA position. Businesses have tons of data – from customers, sales, websites, operations, and digital apps. Business Analysts can use this data to spot trends, diagnose issues and inform business decisions. Common BA tools for working with data include Excel, SQL, and Power BI – which will allow them to analyse data and communicate their insights effectively. For instance, if a business has experienced recent sales decline, Business Analysts can explore customer and sales data to understand the underlying causes of this issue.
Business Analyst role Agile has also impacted the role of Business Analyst. Requirements for traditional projects were defined at the start of the project and remain unchanged throughout the project. In agile projects, requirements are refined as the project progresses based on customer feedback, business needs, and market conditions. As a result, BAs will need to continuously engage with business representatives, Product Owners, developers, and testers.
IA another technology that seems to affect the BA profession is AI (artificial intelligence). There are many AI calculators that can help you with some tasks like analysing data, making summaries, searching for patterns and writing a first draft, but it will never replace fully the BA (a human will always need to identify the real problem, what questions to ask, communicate with stakeholders and take business decisions).
Digital transformation is also shifting client expectations. Customers want things to happen faster, easier, and accessible/available. Business Analysts must become familiar with the clients' journey to identify ways of optimising processes and digital products. Small incremental gains can boost customer experience and save time for staff for digital processes.
As I understand it, a modern Business Analyst is not only someone collecting requirements and documenting them. They are an interface between the business team and the tech team. The BA must know the problem, be a good analyser, be able to communicate with many people and guide the company on the right path to the right solution.
To sum up, Business Analysts will keep developing with new technology. Business literacies creativity writing and learning capacity, communication, and problem-solving skills, flexible personality, and the willingness to learn new digital applications and technologies will be a good recipe for a BA to stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancement. With the synergy of a BAs' technicalities and technologies, an organization can use the real benefits of digital transformation.
